I read on a forum somewhere that you can heal drop eyes in Aros by massaging and pressing the eye in gently, everyday for a few weeks. So I tried it on my arowana and it went all tipsy like it just had a ton of Bacardi 151s.

Anyone have experience using this method? Will it damage my aro instead? I did apply some water conditioner to my hand first - sorta like for lubrication.

I heard that you can also heal drop eye by putting ping pong balls in the tank so the aro looks up.

You wonder why it got tipsy? Fish are not to be touched, much less massaged.

You keep on doing that you'll end up killing the aro.

well think of it this way-if you sat there and massaged your eyeballs you couldnt see straight either lol.. i wouldnt touch his eyes-you could also scratch his corneas.

i would try the ping pong method, or put some drifting plants on top so that he looks up. he should retrain those weak muscles by looking up. in the wild aros are always looking up for food and bugs..

Unfortunately, there is no cure for DE. I've heard of surgery, but besides going under the knife, there isn't much you can do.

So I conclude. It is a terrible method. I do have the ping pong balls floating around in the tank since day 1 when it was 2". I might try surgery on it. The right eye is really bad. The left eye is perfect though.

Hmmm, that one don't work...I'd leave the eye massage on your Arowana alone...
They might recover, but it sounds like you really traumatized him...

What's he doing now?

If the fish starts to swim normally again, leave it alone. They can live and function fine with DE.

Agree. It's one of the downfalls with this species. And short of really knowing what you're doing I wouldn't suggest any type of self performed surgery.

He's swimming normally but he seems afraid of me. Barely eating as well. Refuses to eat off my hand anymore.
