couple of minutes I turn off the lights in the house and I go to bed my arow splashes around like a maniac! I can hear it from my bedroom! Has anyone experienced this before? He splashes so loud I feel like he's going to break the glass cover

Yes I had that with a 17" Green Asian Aro and my two young micropeltes are even worse, if either the tank or room light is swithced on / off they splash around and get spooked!

Oh yeah! ALL of the Aro's I've ever had are terriefied of the dark. I took two cheap clip on desk lamps and clipped them on each side/end of the tank and run a low watt amber bulb as a nightlight, end of problem.

Hmmm... I've never had this problem with my jar, but I keep a red light on so I can watch my catfish at night. Maybe you can either try the red or the moon-glow lights... turn them on before you turn your main lights off....

lol... they would be pretty poor animals if they were scared of the dark...
Usually its the sudden change either on or off or light, which is why it is best to turn the tank light off with the room light still on, and then later turn the room light off... try and give as much as a gradual affect as possible...

always keep nightlights on in my fish room..soothing almost dark but not dark:)

I always keep one light on in the hatchery to cut the stress some of my fish have when the lights go out. The tank in the house has a small LED moonlight on after lights out. It keeps the fish calm and doesn't bother my sleep.
