My attempt to sell HRPs to LFS=fail

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
That sucks dude, I will let you know how I do with selling my bunch when they get around 1-2" mark. My local petland (where I know most of the people) told me that I have to answer some questions about the fish im selling, and most likely show them pictures of the parents to verify what they are. other than that I assume they would take my HRP fry because right now they are overrun with african cichlids and don't have that many americans.

My first job when I was 15 was working in an LFS and I can tell you that cichlids sold like hot cakes. africans, americans the lot. people are more into buying personable interesting fish than your standard tropicals. Most people start off with tropical tetras and such then they move onto cichlids.

Thanks man, and good luck w/ selling yours. It seems like 90% of the customers are parents w/ young children in these stores. Most of the. Parents seem like they never kept fish before, so they just buy what ever the child wants (I work w/ few of these people). This must be these LFS target markets or whom they sell the majority of the fish too.

If you have any growout room You could get them around the 3" mark and take them to the LFS and maybe because they are larger and stockier they will think they are more appealing?

Its rare to find a lfs that has someone knowlegable enough to take advantage of what you are offering. Most lfs just stock what the supplier reccomends.

Well I did until I had some aggression problems and had to move some others around. I added the HRP to my 150g and I have 8-10 in there that have grown out nicely.
I don't know what to do w/ them now. My 150g is pretty over stocked so some HRPs may have to go.
If anyone in SE PA. Wants some then lmk. I won't ship.

a few of the lfs around here just label them as blueish convicts, they dont believe me that they are a different species, they just tell customers its a new strain

i don't even bother trying to sell fish to my LFS i just give them for free, i don't mind it's a good shop and i like having somewhere that will take them off my hands, i do occasionally get stuff given for free from them so works fine for me.

My LFS is awesome.

The owner will get in anything you ask for, I once asked if he can get beani's and he got them in less than a week. But that isn't why I think my LFS is awesome though. I used to breed dovii's, jaguar's, butti's, salvini's, and red devil's. All the fry I would have would go straight to that LFS, the owner was kind enough to give me $10 every 5 cichlids(above 2 inches). The LFS owner also gives me 50% off of everything in that store and at anytime.

@cacichlids wow... flush? or even throw them in the trash because of disease risk? I would be :swear:.
