I give my roaches about 24 hrs to do away with wet foods. mayyyyybe 48 hrs and I usually have left overs so I usually go in and get em.

Sometimes a whole carrot or a whole banana will be gone in hrs, but I dont put the food down into the egg crates. I put em off to the side so i can easily get out the leftovers. If i stuck em down in the middle, I probably wouldn't have left overs...

thoughts?

edit: the reason for the dance w/ wet foods is of my concern for pests. I'm not interested in flies or anything other than non-escaping dubia. I plan on a full cleaning, including changing egg crates every month, but every 2 months is more likely if I don't have any problems. Mold scares me too

Once your colony gets big enough you shouldn't have to worry much about leftover fruits and veggies. My colony in picture downed two large carrots every other day with an apple or orange(they love oranges) in between. Only thing I would watch for is too much humidity and discarding any dead roaches you find ASAP.

I'd never feed my reptile roaches, mostly due to the fact that...Well... I'm afraid of them..

You can blame metamorphosis by franz kafka for that.

I always thought they were gross(bad experiences with German roaches) till I saw the big species of roaches(Discoids).

yeah, theyre not bad at all. its the small lightning fast ones that are gross. yesterdy i was feeding my beardie outside of his cage and a lobster got away from him and went straight for my sweatshirt, luckily drover, the beardie, followed him in and got em. but the slower larger ones like dubias, discoids, hissers etc aren't bad at all.

i almost @#$% my pants when i lifted up their eggcrates for the first time. started with 30 adults and have over 1000 in under two months. a good thing to know is that you can directly control their reproduction with temperature, i keep mine at 95 for max production and room temp if i get too many.
at least they can't pinch!
