My baby moba's are too messy

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
From my own experience my loaches have done pretty well with my mobas. The water isnt very hard and pH isn't too high. I got 6 loaches at 2" and now they are 3.5-4" in 5 months. I don't know too much about CL but I think thats a pretty fast growth rate. Mine seem healthy, fat and always looking for food. I guess time will tell how long they will live for.
I also have 5 syno multipuctatus with my Kitumba frontosas and they scavage for food like there's no tomorrow.....:grinno:

I hear ya Mike, Ewurm is the grandmaster of loaches.....:grinno:
The joy of fishkeeping for me is to learn from my trial n errors.

doesnt seem like loaches will help with what the op needs or wants. i have algea eaters in all my tanks but i still have to clean algea myself, tanks will always have algea that needs to be manually cleaned. i vote for synos and catfish as bottom feeders and such. :) my catfish get sooo fat from just eating what the other fish dont :)

A few LEDs are so low wattage, they wont likely add much for algae to use.

Personally I like to keep my tanks biotopically correct, so i have chosen five 2-3" synos to get into the nooks in the rockwork that my adult frontosa cannot. If they are the species I identified them as they wont grow much larger than 3". need to spend some more time looking at them.

You cannot add Synodontis if your babies are small, they will be eaten. How big are they?

The mobas are just over 1" now. They are roughly 6 weeks old. How long should i wait before i add the synos? Can you give me the specific types that you have chosen that will remain small?

The Synos. are the way to go.

A BN will help w/algae on the glass, but nothing is better than elbow grease.

Multi's and petros will stay relatively small and are common.

Bump for this question:

If i were to get a few 2" synos, would they be a threat to my 1" mobas? I remember someone saying not to buy the synos too big, because they will eat the fronts.

And for a follow up question: My mobas tend to stay at the bottom of the tank. They are very active down there, but they just don't swim above 4" from the bottom. I assume this is because they are such small fish at the moment. With the addition of bottom feeders, will this bring them up to the middle/top of the tank?

It might, but when they get bigger in size then will move around more, but they are not really swim at the top fish.

Gotcha :)

The place i am ordering from has some 2" multi's. I wouldn't think they would be a huge threat to my 1" mobas... but then again i've never kept this type of catfish. Should i hold off?
