Great looking ball! I love to see the older adults. You're right - full grow males are more or less responsible for the whole "ball pythons are bad feeders" thing...as adults, especially males, they just don't need as much food and will adjust their food intake accordingly.
Thanks. I didn't know it was mostly the males. Makes sense though, I guess the females aren't problematic because they need the weight on them incase they start breeding.
The males kind of go on heat, and they just aren't interested in feeding through that time. When your breeding them, it doesn't matter too much, a lot of people wouldn't bother feeding them anyway, as in general they don't take at this time.

Once females are fully grown, they are producing follicles per their natural cycle year round and thus tend to want to take more food when compared with the males.
Seems like with the adult males, once winter rolls around they start to go into breeding mode and lose interest in food. The male I bred this year stopped eating in February and just last week decided to pick back up again.
You've never seen a more powerful feeding response than one from a adult female ball python that had just laid eggs. I felt sorry for those rats!
