This is my first winter having 15+ tanks going in my basement(unfinished) without a dehumidifier and its starting to smell pretty bad. My rooms in the basement and I've got pretty bad allergies + asthma and I haven't noticed any signs of mold but something is smelling pretty bad. I've been looking for jumpers but haven't found any and even if there were some corroded old fish stuck to my floor the ones I've found before didn't smell. Any ideas what smells and what to do about it? I'm thinking its the obvious humidity problem but when I went to home depot the other day to price dehumidifiers they were all sold out but one of the employees told me they DO stock them all year round.
My basement smells %$&@ing disgusting! Any ideas?

I have the same problem with the smell. Its not as major as your but im trying to find a good air purifier, i hope it takes the smell off. I also have a built in vent(fanned) that i could open...it seems to work but its very noisy. Is there anything such as a safe air freshener of some sort?
No windows? No way to ventilate it? Have you taken a wiff of each tank? Concrete walls, drywall, bare insulation? Sump? Floor drain?

Seriously, spend the money for a decent one and you wont be dissapointed, ive got one in my room... its also great for allergies and helps to prevent colds and such.

This isn't the greatest time of the year to be opening my windows when I'm trying to keep my tanks @ 80* and its only 30* outside. I've got concrete walls. My basement is unfinished aside from my room which is finished. I don't think a air purifier is going to help at all. I've smelled around my tanks and have yet to pinpoint the smell. I can bet that it has something to do with when my 130gallon busted and went all over my basement.. I'm going to get some fans going and see if it helps and try to find some places selling dehumidifiers.
