MY BGK DIED

Dammit, he has passed on. I got him from a new petstore and he only lasted a week. Weird thing is that he was eating great, swimming about and hanging out with his protector the striped Raphael.

I'm really upset. Upon checking him out, the petstore cannot see any reason why he died. No marks on him, no trauma, disease or sickness. Thinking it was something wrong with him, on the inside? He had a really nice rock cave that none of the other fish could get under.

Well I'm done with knifes...lol. He was guaranteed so I got another blood parrot.
 
dont give up on knives so fast......

i was about to once. i have found BGK's to be a pretty sensative fish. i have almost killed mine like 3 times.

the last time was really stupid. i put mela-fix in while i was still refilling the tank. put in enough to treat the whole tank. the foam cut the oxygen transfer pretty bad. 2 days in the sump after an hour of being held infront of the canister output.

i wont do that again.

sometime you will be ready to try knives again.
 
I did my research and everything. He had dim lights, passive tank mates(Senegal bichirs, a Striped Raphael,,Blood parrot, Silver Dollars)all his size, plenty of hiding spots, no salt in tank, eating frozen bloodworms, shrimp, carnivore pellets and the occasional veggie wafer.

I miss the little guy. :(

I'm not sure how people have such bad luck with BGK's. Last year I had mine torn to pieces by a Pike Cichlid, just absolutely nasty looking and was barely alive, but over time he healed up and still lives today.
But I suppose, sometimes there is just that one species of fish that you just can't seem to keep alive sometimes, and for me that would be Guppys and Bettas, lol.
 
the blood parrot i had would torment my BGK all day long. i got rid of the parrot
 
sorry for your loss.. sometimes theres no logical explanation... it just happens..but you did everything right.. and i think you should try again when your able...
