MY BICHIR IS REALLY HURT! HELP!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
salt, melafix, to avoid/cure infections. raising the temp up would definitely help.

remember not to use Iodized salt or any other Chemical-based salt... just rock salt... Melafix will help a lot or if you don't have melafix, you can use Tea-tree oil... Raise the temp also...

If your tank already sits in the mid 80 temp wise I don't think I would raise it anymore. Like everyone said Melafix is good for wounds. Good luck keep us posted.

poor guy- he should be okay though. to echo everyone else, i would add melafix, salt and keep your water clean with waterchanges-that way the bacterial load is lower and he has less of a chance of a secondary infection setting in.

hes a cute little guy..

update!

so this morning, i checked on him and hes been sitting in the same spot from last night. in front of the flower pot. there is still blood on his top spikes...but the bodily blood..you can see that it..kind of formed a line along the side of his body. the one thing that really freaked me out was...that line of blood that divides the body, the top portion is a lighter color..and the bottom is a darker color...i forgot which one he was before he got hurt -_- and today at work, i showed my coworker the picture
of my bichir and he said that he looked a little swollen. is that possible? lol.

i dont get paid til tomorrow so ill have to wait 2 more days until i can buy the salt
and melafix.

Just use table salt if you have it. No need for the melafix IMO.
He'll be fine. No need to worry.

BTW I think it's the chinese algea eater(if thats what you meant by chinese pleco). They can get super mean when they get bigger.

table salt as in norton salt right?! i dont know my salts very well sorry.
so after work today, i saw him in the same spot...but he was trying to swim
i think? he wasn't getting anywhere. he was just wiggling in place..but his body didn't bend...only his head and the tip of his tail were moving..so it seems like he can't
bend his body to get movin around.

that doesn't sound good, if his spines broken/damaged I don't think theres much you can do. I really hope he pulls through. As far as salt I would pick up some Aquarium Salt from the LFS. AFAIK most table salts contain iodine and other substances whereas aquarium salt is pure. Good luck!
