Lol iv had a gar b4 man for like 6 months I had one ..... I like gar they r really cool .... But I'll be honest .... It's not a aro:(
My tank just seems so blah... Empty without the aro .... I love gar but it's just not the same .... That y I bought the pbass .... Something I never had in hopes it may fill the void lol
My ansorgii died couple weeks ago and I ditched a couple polys at my lfs and donated the aro to a Asian buffet so with 4 good sized fish gone I felt I could house a gar till it gets around 18" lol
 
You should pick up a tropical gar~

They're way more interesting than flg's to me. Atractosteus are so much more primal looking. Realllllly love mine.

I feel that though. I want an aro so bad. After what happened to the silver dollars though, I'm really hesitant.

Thank you man ... It took me a good while to aquire them all .... Iv lost quite a few over the last 2 years to many to even count my collection should be twice this size lol but the sad thing is I still consider my collection to be not great lol just a alright one iv seen much better collections on here than mine .... But I'll get there one day haha :)

Got home from work and my Nigerian lap was under the coffee table .... Lids were weighted there was no where for him to get out except one tiny spot in the far corner that was 2" long and 1 1/2" wide was the only possible spot and some freakin how he found it .... No clue how a 14" lap could get out of a hole that small ..... She was my first big bichir I ever owned when I say big I mean over 12" lol

Sorry for your loss. Surprisingly they can get through extremely small holes. That's why I usually duck tape anything else that I can't cover with plastic.
 
Sorry for your loss man. Such a bummer. I'm so glad to have migrated away from HOB filters. I currently have a gap at the back of my tank. I'll sleep much easier when it's sealed.
 
I have a canister filter I use the hob for extra filtration since my tank isn't the biggest .... I think I'm gonna duck tape that hole I'm down to 7 bichirs now >:(
