my foot long palamas beuticifferi swollowed a decent sized piece of gravel like 3 days ago. i noticed the decent sized lump today was missing when i turned on the light and he had somthing in his mouth. i thought he was eating an albino but they were all there so it had to be a rock. it was right at the front of his mouth too and he just couldnt spit it out for the life of him. i was gonna get a net and yank him out but i was too slow and he swallowed it down again. the stone is pea sized and it looks like he has 1 or 2 in him. he shows no bloating or lethargy and is swimming around fine. what the hell should i do????????????????? this is my biggest and best poly and if it dies i will freak out and my parents will shoot me for "killing" a 70 dollar fish. maybe feed a buncha shrimp and get it out the other way?? i could drug him but i dont think im brave enough to do surgery. HELP ME ANNIE!!

My recomendation is that you keep a close eye on it. Not feed it too much. If the rock does get stuck in the digestive tract then feeding it loads of shrimp are going to back it up and may complicate matters. If you are feeling brave you might want to try to feed it some peas, you might have to put them in his mouth and force them down. These will work as a laxitive and you will be able to tell if he passed them from the remains of the peas that will show up the next day hopefully. Meanwhile I would start calling around for a Vet that specialises in aquatics.

i brought home enough black sand for a first layer. im gonna gravel vac the gravel and then take it out and replace it with sand tonight. this is gonna suck. i think im gonna wait a day or so to see if he passes it. i might feed some small pieces of shrimp to get him digestiong and hopefully he can crap it out.

i would think that it will not kill the fish, it will more then likely regurgitate it, I would watch and see maybe he spit it out when you went to get your net. Who knows. Keep an eye and see.

All is well that ends well. last night i took the thin layer of gravel out and replaced with black sand. i woke up and had a slimmer bichir and a shiny white piece of gravel laying in the sand! i dindnt feed him at all, he regurgitated it last night. ill take a pic of the stone, its like 2 peas side by side, maybe 3/4in long! im so glad.....

my 16 inch rope died yesterday from the same thing, got stuck in his throat and he could not regurgitate it. I've now removed all river rocks and have only sand.
