Binohendrix and myself have two different strains.

I have the strain he was describing here:

Unless we're talking about those really blue ones, that has a different head that doesnt look like the regular jd. Their mouth are different, almost like a beek, really different from mine....Those are more fragile and hardly pass the 6" mark.

Mine has never had a 'dempsey' look to it. It's got a slight divit in it's forehead, that gives it's mouth that pointed look.

The pattern his had as a juvie has a lot more black lightning bolts, and they're thicker too.

I've got some pics of mine as a juvie in my gallery.

Never knew there were 2 strains of EBJDs...which one is the original one that started in SA?

I don't think it's a widespread and recognized statement yet.

If I had to guess, it would be the one like bino's that started in SA by Luzardo, that's just a guess though.

I hypothesize that there's more than two strains, seperated by characteristics such as fin length, ammount of black pattern, head shape, and body color (solid blue vs. gold dorsal, blue ventral).

The thing is, they're not being developed seperately and line bred. The differences are just the result of seperate breeding operations (similar to variation in isolated populations of the same species of fish in nature) and crazy recessive genes.

Thanks for the compliments guys! About the two strains, like cohazard said ts widespread yet. As far as i know, im the only one talking aout this on fish forums...I noticed that when went back to the lfs were i got may ebjd yars ago. The other ebjd tha was also for sale the day i got mine was still there. For my surprise, he looked tottaly different from mine in very aspect. Fins, color, patern, head, mouth, eye color ...And was way smaller.... He was very pretty but didnt look like a dempsey at all. It's like an other specimen.Anyway, he was also a looker and i really wanted to take him home but he became a lfs pet.:irked: . I will post some full tank shots soon.!
