The only lfs that I actually trust does tell it's customers the adult sizes and temperments. I have even seen them turn down sales before. The problem is that most customers will actually lie to them about what size tank they have.

It's really what you are used to seeing. IF you see mostly five gal size tanks or bowls, then a 30 gal is going to look big. And maybe if you are a small town person , who doesn't check online much and only goes to small pet-shops, you might not see a tank larger then then 55 gal either.

What's difficult to explain to my parents and some people is that my 150 gal isn't really that big to some people or fish-keeping in general anymore when other people have 500 gal+ tanks out there.

I also get a pretty good laugh when people come into my house and comment on how "huge" the 55 gallon tank is in my living room. :D
Most people I know think that a 55 is a big tank and too much work to keep.

I replied to a sale add not long ago, and the guy rambled on about how HUGE his tank he's selling was. It was huge alright, all 37 gallons huge it was! :grinno:

Yeah i have read allot of adds like these, they say their monster 75 gallons and big 20s , i just feel bad for all the fish out there that aren't even full grown and already far to big for the current tank:screwy:

So many adds right now I am noticing about these RES coming with the full set up , at most they are 20 gallon aquarium, some 2 or 3 in a single aquarium ... I feel horrible for them
