I built one like that about fifteen years ago with a shower head and a five gallon plastic paint pail for my discuss tank. It was one of the best filters I ever made. I used lava rock mulch for the media. After about two months I decided to do a water test prior to a water change to see how my nitrates were. They were impossibly low. Barely detectable as I recall.

I figured that there must have been anaerobes living at the center of the lava pieces eating the nitrates! I tore the tank down a couple of months later because I got transfered through work and never did figure it out completely. How do you deal with nitrates on this tank. I don't imagine they're a problem in your green house...

The only difference from the shower head is that the bar rotates, so the water is spread thru all the bioballs. That’s the beauty of this filter. :naughty:

I almost don’t have nitrates. And I do water changes frequently.

In the greenhouse I don’t have any problems with nitrates. :grinno:

Hi Gr8KarmaSF.

I’m doing some new things at home, so in this moment it’s impossible to take pics from this tank. When everything is finished I’ll take the pics. ;)

Well, we'll be waiting! This is such a good idea, and it inspired me to build a bucket-shower filter for my tank. It didn't have the spinning spray action, but it is fed by a waterfall, so the splashing should at least make up for some of that.

Thanks for this thread! Great info. :headbang2

O I C, pretty much an aeration tower

Sorry :(

It’s being very complicated to take pics because I’ve received some new rays and some are with problems, so all my time is to try everything to save them ;)

But the system is working very well :).

And yes, the bucket-shower filter fed by a waterfall will work. You will not take 100% advantage of it but it’s good. I have some systems working only like that, because I can’t do other way.

I only have this system in this pound/tank. In the others I couldn’t do it :(

But this is the best system I can remember :)
