:DCaught this little guy the last time I went fishing at a nearby lake. They were always one of my favorite fishes to catch, and i like the almost purple sheen that some adults have, and the yellow and black stripe eye. Anyway, I caught him, and his buddy, brought them home where I had a 29 gallon bare bottom tank setup in my basement (I had been thinking about seting up a coldwater/native tank. One of the crappies died, because he wasnt looking good from the start. The other was a survivor, and is now aggressivly feeding on crickets that I drop on the surface of the water. Note: He is only in a bare bottom tank because I wasnt sure if he would have made it before, and I didnt want to setup a tank, only to have it him die. He will be getting a new tank within a month. And in a week I will get him some gravel for the bottom, and some plants for the corners. (Thinking about going with live plants. :D
And, since this thread would be worthless without pics, here they are! The full tank shot really show his real colors, which are mainly silver/with black spots, and that cool yellow eye.

Anyone else out thier keep them? I searched the forums, but only found pictures of one other guys. I hear they are pretty sensitive in aquaria, but im just happy that hes eating readily now, but hes a little skiddish when it comes to worms.

Could you possibly tell me what hes feeding on? Im not gonna even go for feeder fish, too much risk, but mine is currently topfeeding off of crickets, but i would like to get him onto pelets.

i would try and switch him unto the pre-killed crix from a can, the one that they sell in the reptile section a petsmart, after that you could get him unto pellets:)

I'm actually having a hard time getting him off feeders, the bass will both hit blood worms and frozen brine, but the crappie will just nibble a bit and not really eat and since the bass are a bit small he starts chasing them around when hungry, I haven't pushed it too far, pretty much been sticking with the feeders

The crappie should have no problem eating pelletes. Mine did with out hesitation. The Bass is another story. I am sure it is possible, but I got rid of mine. I have 3 crappie and blugill now.
Nice looking fish you have btw :)
