my black throat monitor >

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
i used cypress mulch when i had my blackthroat. if i did it over i would use a soil/clay mix. i would just get that from my backyard. awesome monitors. get big quick, so start building a permanent enclosure. i did a 4 foot tall by 4 foot wide by 8 feet long. after he was in there i felt kinda bad cause i really dont think that was big enough. i eventually sold him to a guy in az that had a 10x16 outside enclosure and a nice female waiting for him! anyways, like i said start building. mine went from 14 inches to 6 feet in 3 yrs! was 30 pounds! when he was little he ate insects, worms, and thawed out rodents. as an adult he ate crickets, supermeal worms, nightcrawlers, crayfish, and thawed out rats.

What a gorgeous litle lizard:). Here those guys are hard to find and comand big bucks. If only I had the space:cry:

maybe in europe they are hard to find but in the states most reptile shows have them cb going for about $100-125. cheaper for wild caught ones. maybe a little higher if they are high yellow or something. what do they go for in europe coura?

I'd love to have one of these guys. I'm trying to figure how much of the year I could keep one outside. I probably have the space for something like a 7.5'x4' enclosure inside which I think is a bit small, but if it was only his winter quarters that wouldn't be so bad.

I already have plans for his permanent home which will be in my garage, a 6x12 foot open top enclosure
