Thanks everybody for the comments.

For the questions about temperature, yes, this bowfin has been living in low 80's water for a while now. It was wild caught in Florida so I don't think it needs the cold waters of its northern brethren.

Sucks they don’t keep that color pattern on them when they get bigger at least mine didn’t he was about 18" when he died on me.

Some sort of eco-complete soil stuff. It's not gravel and it's not sand. A weird in-between.

How fast do they normally grow? I bought a 6-7" one on thursday. He ate like a maniac within an hour of being in his tank.
