Hello MFK,

(I am Sid from Bombay, India. This is my 1st post)

I bought a 7" Siver Arowana last Sunday from my local fish shop.

It seems to be in pretty good shape to me.

Your thoughts?

(The pics are from when I had just introduced him to my tank. He was a bit scared. He was swimming around in the display tank in the shop and is swimming around pretty well since he's settled down)

(Intended set-up (based on availability in Bombay): (white/golden) Sand + driftwood + round (medium size) stone..No plans for tank-mates. I don't know why everyone recommends a bare-bottom tank.)

It's currently in my spare 30 gallon tank while I haggle with local tank makers over the price for a 4' or 6' tank.

I know this little guy (currently about 7") grows to about 2.5-3 feet in captivity.

Will a lone Silver Arowana be happy in a 4ftx2ftx2ft (~120 gal.) Tank or will be need a 6ftx2ftx2ft (~180 gal.) one?

I'm feeding it shrimp (cleaned/de-shelled) and Freeze Dried Blood Worm. (I have some specialized Arowana food ("sticks") but my aro does not even touch it.)

WOw...that's one nice silver. Those are some VERY long barbels, the longest I've seen on a baby. They will remain pretty long as an adult too if they don't get damaged.

That is a sweet-looking silver! He will need a bigger tank than a 180 to be comfortable though. ;)

bro you will need at least 8x2.5x2 for life but i suggest bigger since your silver may past 30"

very nice silver....How much do the aro go for in India

Wow! Most of you are suggesting even a 6ftx2ftx2ft tank is not going to enough for this Silver Aro :)

I live in a condo apartment in Bombay. While the space constraints ain't as bad as Tokyo, a 8ft or a 10ft tank is still going to be a bit huge for my 800 sq ft apartment.

But, I guess when you keep a monster fish, you need a monster tank! :) I will try to get my Silver Aro at least an 8 footer.

Price for this particular specimen (Silver Arowana) : 1000 Indian Rupees = 22 USD

Jardinis of about the same size (7") are a bit rarer and it's hard to find a undamaged specimen. And Jardinis go for about 2500 Indian Rupees (54 USD).

its more of the width, the length 6 ft will do fine for quite a while but 30"+ should be width but length i suggest 8' and width 30"+

That silver has great potential! Hopefully his/her barbels stay nice and long like that, and that he/she won't develop any DE/PJ.
