I don't think...infact I am pretty certain that they cannot live to be over 100 years old.

average life span is ~25 years, i believe the record is 228 years in a natural Japanese pond

i used to be obsessed with koi...until i realized i couldn't keep them well in tanks

Did that really say 228 years !!!??? The koi named Hanako was supposed to have lived over 200 but I can't find any place that confirms this.
 
I just looked her up by a google search for "Hanako the Koi" and found confirmation. She was documented to have died at the age of 225 years in 1977, She was owned by Dr. Komei Koshihara at the time, he had inherited her. we're probably talking about the same one guppy, the 228 came from memory as i read about it years ago
