My buddy bought a aro labeled as a black but i think its a silver

Could be a black. Young silvers are generally more bright silver.

the lfs knows there stuff they've been around since the 60's i think, why sell a black and know its a silver.

It's a silver, still a great fish. Just slightly bigger full grown.

honestly i want to say silver, because when theyre babies there full black with a yellow horizontal strip going across it. try googling the pictures it shows better, i own a black and silver when they where about that size and you could tell the difference untill they were about 5in thats when they both looked the same then only difference were the color of fins well good luck
