Hi my carpinte has these small growths. started off as one under his chin where the gills meet. now has them at the base of fins and on a gill plate. Here is a picture. With another random picture of the tank mates! (random mix i know)
Thanks in advance

Nice fish. Can't make out any bumps or growths in that pic. Is that a tench in the second pic?

yup, tench that was in my goldfish tank until i though it was a good idea to put him in my 180. The lump is under the chin and on the gill cover behind the eye. the pictures are zoomable.

Now I see them. Red bumps. And I'm sorry I don't know what they are. Maybe PM Lupin.

Bacterial. Quarantine the fish again or rather place it in a hospital tank. What are the other symptoms you have observed? What color is the poop?

Will close your other thread so the responses will be placed here instead.

So would this be gram positive or gram negative? Any general way to classify this bacteria so he can try a medication? Or is the poo color part of the bacterial ID puzzle?

The poop would indicate if internal bacterial infection is also involved. It often does when a fish exhibits blisters or cysts that look infected. Most of the bacterial infections are easily gram negative so I'm leaning on that possibility. If it didn't establish itself near the gills, I would have suggested topical treatment to disinfect but it's not an option when the blisters are near critical areas (eyes, gills and mouth).

Hi lupin, thankyou for the swift reply. In answer to your question, slight stringy white poop. I will catch him in a minute (just doing a water change). Is this likely to spread to other tank inhabitants?
Also what do mean by gram positive?
Thankyou all for your help.

Yes it could spread. Based on your discription and photos I would use Maracyn-Two, it is easly absorbed and effective against both skin and intestinal gram-negative infections. It is usually available at most LFS and/or Petsmart.
