Mine like blueberries. I think they think they're pellets and attack them as soon as they hit the water. I also have feed parsley, which turns feces bright neon green...

Actually this is a point. She absolutely will not eat peas at all, so apple might not work either. Well well, next time I fancy one I'll break her a snippet off and see what she thinks. Worst case scenario she can always have a knuckle when I go in to retrieve it later.

Texas cichlids are more herbivorous than many CA cichlids, so I'm not really surprised. I tried offering cucumber and zucchini, but not one ate it.

anyone try feeding cons cucumber? I tried feeding him lettuce the other night he swam right up to it looked at it and swam away. I'm thinking of trying cucumber but wanted to know if anyone has had success with cucumber.

Cucumber is good. But i've found zuchini to be a better option, not as messy.

I've always found that getting cichlids to accept such food's is very much "Monkey see, monkey do". Much easier in a communtiy setting, where they observe other fishes dinning on it. Here, being the egotistic bastards they are think to themselves "Hey, i want that." and therefore much easier getting small portions of veg in their diet. Much more difficult getting a solitary cichlid to realize what you are offering is actually food.
