My Channa Gachua and new setup...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Made a custom lid as my old 1 was too bulky and the light was too bright for them, I did have my light and reflector strip glued on, Which was good for a while untill they fell off, So I used sticky black foam strips and they are working a treat, But don't look quite as good...
Just need my plants to grow and it will be sweet... :)

Hi nice setup and little Gachua , just some advise get rid of the hob asap get a sponge filter or canister . That gap for an overflow is a perfect escape and they will escape ! Also removing the overflow will alow for more floatung cover which will also be greatly appreciated by this species . they lije things dark abd gloomy.

Good luck with them!

Thanks for the advice mate... ;) The gap is tiny really, I did have a couple escape the other day when I did a water change, they were gone for about 30 mins but when I found them I put them back in and they were completely fine and are doing really well, they are really tough little things, I have a floating plant in there but as its only a couple of weeks old needs a bit of time to spread, Just got another slightly smaller tank today to keep a couple in when they get a bit bigger, Love them they are my pride and joy lol

Also made a kind of cave tree root thing out of bogwood on the left side which they love hiding in, should look good with that on the 1 side and my plants when they grow on the other...

Nice setup. If you don't mind, I have some suggestions. Make a hood which has a little more height and openings at the front/back side. This would ensure air circulation. Also, as DC commented, get rid of the hob and get a simple internal filter/external filter with a spray bar for aeration purposes. Few suggestions for plants:vals, Anubias butterfly, Cryptocoryne Wendtii, Bacopa Monnieri.

Good luck, awaiting more pics. :)

Cheers

Thanks for the suggestions :) Would there not be enough air between the hood and water as it is atm, my hood has a 5 mm gap all the way around the edge too so would air not circulate that way, and why dispose of the filter, The cut out is as tight as I could get it and they tend to avoid that corner really...

Plus with a higher hood like the stock 1 that came with it you have to keep the lid closed at all times to stop them escaping and there are no air holes apart from that...
