My Chocolate addiction

The Festum branch 100%. We could all the way through Krobia, acaras et al and then back into Central America with as the evolutionary tree goes to GTs (various flavors) Umbee and into Festea straight to the amps. I can see it when I look at them. Oscars have always been an enigma and most likely branched off separately very early on the break with the earliest common ancestor. The CAs most likely came first as they are the most Wrasse like IMO. Then as the continents drifted the SAs took their own path. Just speculation on my part based on physical characteristics.

I may be way off base...but For the oscar- I actually look at them as somewhere along the uaru/Parrot side just evolved into a predator... look at there head structure and eyes...

If you want to get real carzy think about kribensis and pikes.... africa and south america but definitely have common ancestors!

I can see the O's family resemblance even in the eye structure and face of the Chocolate in relation to them. I could just never put my finger on where they fit into the big picture. Your assessment is as good as any. The break with africa is going way back in time MYA but yes there are strong resemblances there too.

I have two adult pairs in two different tanks ('insurance against loss') plus an extra female and about 50 1"ers (next generation). One of my all time favorite species.

Very nice. I just finished a large water change about 2 hours ago and One pair is already breeding on a piece of drift wood.

Lets go waaaaaay back in cichliddom... can you say Heterochromis multidens? It would seem to fit right in with New World Cichlids... except its from the Congo! I'm beginning to think there is something to this "evolution theory" and "science". And I was so happy with "hocus pocus". :grinyes:

I like how my male just owns the tank but does rip up any tankmates,my dominate pair change colors often uploadfromtaptalk1424690578780.jpguploadfromtaptalk1424690541578.jpg

Edit:doesn't rip up tankmates!

My experience with CC is that they're all bark. My old green sev and CC used to constantly have "scream" matches, but never rarely ever even lip-locked. I've always found this quite amusing
