My cichlid system build

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Very nice job so far.

Well tonight I finally got to work on more things. I got going on the stand and got it knocked out. I then got the 2 empty 30g tanks I had, the third is setup with fish waiting for another tank to be empty to transpher them into. By the way I think those fish heard they were getting a bigger tank, cause theyve blown up in size in the last two weeks. I did the mock setup thing to check what all I need. Turned out to be quite a list. Anyway heres some build pics.

Btw, the build is changing as time goes. Im only using 30's now as one of my 55s opened up and another one was give to me. So now the system Im building will be 3-30s, and 1 55. This whole thing keeps evolving as people keep giving me thier junk the dont want lol. My garage now has like 12 tanks in it, Im not sure if this is a bad or a good problem.

Alright I got all the plumping done last night. I just had to paint my return pipe and let the glue set on it. It was really hard to not just say screw it and get everything going lol. For some reason on two of the overflows the krylon set wierd with kind of a matte finish. I hope everything is ok but I couldnt scratch it off so I think it will be. I still dont have the 55 on the system yet but the way its set now I can take a little bit of time getting that one going and let the system establish in the mean time. Any critism would really be appreciated at this point too.

Great job man, i want to do something like this in the future with SA/CA CIchlids!! Your plumbing is something else, id need a bit of help doing that i reckon haha!!!

Finished pics With Fish, this is gonna be quick I gotta go do real work.

the only thing that bothers me is my pump way out runs my overflows so I had to back it way off with my valves. Is this dangerous for the pump? Its and Iwaki so its pretty strong

Looks good. How is the flow after getting everything going? If you need more, you might be able to get away with more flow if you didn't reduce the drain lines into one. That one line with constrict the flow of the system.
