My clown fish jumped from tank...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
A personal hypothesis:

In general wouldn't most normal reef fish be less inclined to jump compared to fw fish because of the water depth in their natural habitat and how very few fish relate to the surface in their lifestyle in marine fish?

Possible, i don't know if there is any scientific analysis behind this?
At the same time i believe all fish salt or fresh are opportunists, plus i feel a couple of mine were just near the surface and spooked.

I guess the fish just get's tired with life... just like humans do.

Exept they don't have a tall building to jump from.

If you want to tank top to be able to breath, but want to deter jumping fish, you can use egg crate over the tank.

Its primary use is in diffusing lighting such as fluorescent overhead lights.

That poses a problem with reef tanks though. You may have to increase you wattage to compensate for the diffusion. I personally have never had a saltwater fish jump out of its tank. I've had snails crawl out but they figure out how to get back in lol or I just plop em back.

Sad news man sorry to hear of your loss :(

Sorry to divert slighty, but is their any negative points to evaporation occuring because of a lid/hood not being used in a FW setup?

They offer a better spread for the light. Less shadows inside the tank. Better fill for light. That is afterall what they were made for. You shouldnt have too much difficulty with it unless your lights are far from the surface of the tank.
