Clown knifes all have different numbers of spots but it is possible you have a differen't species Chitala Chitala usually have alot of spots while Chitala ornata usually have only a few spots which are usually pretty small
mine has 9 on one side, 16 on the other LOL !!!
i think it has to do with how much time each side spends exposed directly to the aquarium light. and mine must swim a loop so his right side is exposed more
