I have a game I am playing with my 150. I have been introducing clown loaches into it to see how many I can get in there and still not see them. I don't know why but they rarely come out. About once a day I will see one or two. I am up to 10 and only can catch the majority of them out at night if I drop food to the front of the tank. I was very curious where they go most of the time. I have a lot of rock work and plants so there are places to hide but I didn't think there was that much hiding area. I started moving things around during a water change and found a whole nest of them. They had dug themselves under a flat rock into the sand below. They were nose to tail and stacked on top of each other. Its funny because it is a peaceful community tank and nothing bothers them. I think I'll get a couple more this week.

Haha sounds like fun. I have two different lights in my tank and found that they're more likely to come out when only the less intense light is on. It made no difference in the morning when they're really hungry though.

Haha when they're hungry day don't care if they come out and eat like a pig maybe if they get less place to hide you'll see them most of the time.

They'll get comfy. Dimmer lights do help as well. Try feeding only floating food & they will come to the surface when they get hungry.

Clown Loaches are hilarious... I'm just curious to know how many you're going to keep adding... They can grow to a failry large size.

careful don't get too excited, they all grow to 1 foot!

True...but he's got a decade or so to prepare for that. They grow very slow, especially after they hit 4".

It's not so much how many you have in there (within reason) as much as it is their size and how long they've been there. Once you have at least 6 and they are decent size, they should eventually become comfortable and come out. I have 6 4-6"ers and they have gotten to the point where I usually see at least 5 any time I look at the tank

As far as size, I have never noticed any growth rate on clown loaches. They have to be one of the slowest growing fish. I wouldn't believe it if I ever saw all of them get a foot. And tell me how hard would it be to give away a foot long clown loach. Most people I know would love to get one. Its not like its a pacu or rtc, you just don't see them around. I think a 150 gallon will hold a lot of foot long loaches, as long as I update my filtration.

I would dim the lights but I am already running the lowest lights I can, my plants wouldn't like it any lower. I think I only have 4 3 foot t12s.
