Just got this one yesterday. Took to feeding right away as soon as I gave him some frozen shrimp and a couple of ramshorns. He’s around 19cm.

I gave him the 60 gallon tank I was using to grow out my first one which I posted here not long ago, that one’s around 10cm and I currently put it in a 10 gallon hospital as it has some sort of minor fin infection on the pectorals. I’m in the process of setting up a 135 gallon tank that the new one will go into a couple of weeks from now, and the smaller one will then go back to his 60 gallon grow out tank once he’s cured.

Two ideas I’m exploring that I’d like to hear thoughts on from folks here more experienced with these puffers than me:

1. Now I have two (and the only way is up from here!) I’m tempted to have a crack at breeding them once they mature. I can get them tested to sex them before trying to introduce them to each other, but is the 135 gallon enough for this?

2. If the 135 gallon isn’t enough for breeding, and/or in the meantime (I’m still at least a year out from having them reach sexual maturity), I’m tempted to keep other fish with the one that’s going in the 135. I was thinking datnoids and bichirs. Is this a terrible idea or worth a shot? What have you successfully kept with these?

Looking forward to see what you guys have to say!
