Stick with one pair in the 29g - if you want other fish in with them put some small, fast, schooling fish in with them. The schoolers will keep the cons busy for something to chase off their agression during spawning - and be fast enough to not get hurt themselves. I use bloodfin tetras (about 6) - they work great.

I am a fan of gravel - sand is a pain in the ...

so i should only have a pair of cons and some small fish would neon or cardinal tetras b fine with them? im just gonna go with the gravel just gotta buy a undergravel filter and 2 powerheads and some gravel
do u have any pics of ur set up with cons?

Neons and Cardinals would be too small. It may work, but you will most likely lose some if not all.
how about Jumbo neons they r bigger than regular neons cuz i saw them at scotts petshop in hinsdale the last time i was there

another ?
since i am gonna move my pair of cons to the 29gallon and when they spawn would i have to put the fry in a seperate tank to grow them out or would i b able to leave them in the 29 gallon?

rabendr2 is right.
Don't use neons... The cons will kill them - they are too slow. Speed is key in this scenario.

My bloodfin tetras have staved off destruction very well against a male and female con and easily evade the them. My cons will hit from below and try to ram their target as well as try to bite it - but they are all about mass and speed - not acrobatic or agile maneuvers like the bloodfins.

As far as the fry go - I have been keeping my fry in with the parents until the next batch of eggs are laid, then moving them out into another tank. Once new eggs are laid the parents will attack the previous batch of offspring.
