I just got a male for my female marble convict yesterday. They already seem to like each other, not very surprising. They are only 2". Are they big enough to spawn? They are in a 35 gal tank by themselves. Here is a couple pictures of them. Tell me what you think?

From what I've heard they could get breeding any time :)

Nice looking convicts btw :)

very nice! I also have a male marble, and yours is the only other I have ever seen. I was starting to think I just got a really poor normal convict. I have mine with a pink female that is only about 2".. wonder how big they have to be to start breeding

Mine (or i should say my kid's) have and still are breeding at one inch in size! :nilly:
you can't stop them. :D

Thanks. Well hopefully they will give me lots of little marbles.
Unless your normal convict carries the marble gene, you won't get marbles. The gene is recessive and both parents have to carry it. You would have to breed their fry back to the marble to get marble babies.

I am not sure if he does or not. Thank you for the info though. Mom and son may have to play then. Would that be bad?

It's not typically recommended, but I would say it would be ok, since the majority of fish you see at LFSs are either the direct or indirect result of inbreeding

I am in the exact same situation as you, I have a female marbled con and a male regular con, and I would like some marbled fry as well. They just bred this past week, and I'm going to take one of the more dominant males and breed it back with his momma. I'm not looking for a strong gene pool, these won't be for resale or anything, just a fun breeding project.
