my question is are you going with light sand of like black sand? because i think IME cons show better colors in darker substrate. i like your cons but you need to change your sig again cause you have no more FM's and it still says you do.

My barred cons show best with natural gravel the black and white pop however with black sand the white tuns into a grey. The other bummer about black sand like a car shows everything so if your not suckin up every day the tank can goto hell quickly. I like white but I am ready for a change, need to check the tile place and see what they have.

My sand is regular old off-white PFS and my cons are very dark, one male is actually just about pure black. I really like the blue one. I think you're going to have problems with 5 cons in that tank, I hope you don't end up losing the small ones. If/when they do pair up hopefully you have another tank by then and can separate out the other ones. Maybe all the livebearers will dither it a little bit.

Not sure what you're planning on doing re: sand but if you can get the pool sand it will save you lots of $$$ over the petshop stuff.

You might have a tough time finding a pool supply store in Wisconsin. Probably not too many people have pools there, compared to GA.

nice looking pink con, btw. I've never seen an orange one like that.

I'd go with pool filter sand as well (if you can find it locally). Play sand is another option... plus... it I think it would be a little darker. Just remember that you have to spend a lot of time washing. As for the background. You can always simply paint it black. That's what I do with my tanks. Alternatively, you can use black construction paper. One issue with paper (or other backgrounds that you stick on the back of the tank)... is that water will invariably splash and get between the tank and background... and then it doesn't look as good.

Oh ya... Nice Convicts!

:)

Black construction paper, If I'm thinking about what you're talking about, makes a terrible finish. Painting is the best option but it's tedious and a little risky. Get your standard vinyl type background, spray canola oil onto it, stick into onto the back of your tank on the outside, and use something like a ruler or anything decent flat to iron out the bubbles like so.

fish will look great when you add the sand instead of the multi colourd stuff lol .

if you wanna go cheap you can just tape a black bag to your background looks good and free basicly :D

why do you have platy with convicts? plus you have like 8 convicts in a 30 gallon.. but nice pics... i do love my convicts
