My convicts won't breed? Am I just paranoid?

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
ive breed 2 dofferent pair of cons very easy to tell sex apart simple male has no color female has orange or pink belly will breed when there ready i breed them in 10g and 20 so water params have to be rite and they have to be nice and full

it seems like it is going well i think you are a lilttle paranoid...lol..
it is extreamly rare for males to have pink scales...like 1 in a million...
in my experience male always pick the feamale taht is smallest and most aggressive....
the bumping and pushing is a good sign ...they should spawnany time now...
do a 50% water cange with cool water....this stimulates spawning....
good luck!

Ok, well I was in the ER for 3 days but I'm back now, long story that I'd rather not get into. The male still pushes her around, not as aggressive as before, but how long does this take?! Oh and I didn't feed them throughout that time, so I imagine that set things back a bit, no one else in my apartment. And as you can see I'm a very impatient guy, so tell me.....now. :D

P.S. When I got the female she was skinny, not filled with eggs.
She's a little plumper, but not fat. You think the male can't spawn cause
she isn't ready? I've been feeding cichlid flakes and frozen brine.

yeah my two mated very quickly, i just provided plenty pots and hidey holes for them to do the do. Time will tell dude, maybe daddy is a smoker and has a rock bottom sperm count lol

LOL
Maybe so. bad daddy fish. :grinno:

Still no love in thier tank....the male just pushes her around, I even added some shells and stones to help hem decide where to lay eggs. BUT STILL NOTHING! Either I'm not patient enough, which I'm not, or I picked the wrong cons for each other.

When my dad was a kid he had a convict pair spawn in their plastic bag on the way home from the pet store. Just give them time. Soon you'll wish that they'll slow down. :D

You serious? Damn, hah.
Anyways, did a water change with cool water and bumped the temp to 80. Hopefully that will get to them. I'm just very impatient, I usually hate breeding fish cause it takes so long hah. What are some good foods for conditioning cons? I'm feeding frozen brine and omega one cichlid flakes.
That good enough?

Blood worms or diced earthworms usually give them the urge to merge.
