What do you do with the fry?

Could you take a look at my thread about convicts? Looks like you know what you're doing and if you haven't already read it, please do. I want my cons to live happily and I don't mind if they breed...my LFS takes any fish I bring them and will basically trade me whatever I ask for.

I usually let nature take its course. Typically I only get 2 or 3 fry that survive to to get about the size of my thumbnail, I will take those and give them to a LFS, he just adds them to his convict tank.

This time around I dont have a pleco to ninja in an cull some eggs or other cichlids to gobble up stray and free swimming fry.

So I might end up with more this time around.

Here is an update:

Eggs are starting to darken up, will prolly have wrigglers in a day or two.

Here is a pic I made to show the difference in egg color as the embryo matures:

The red arrow and circle indicate an egg that was fungal

I could only get in a few shots before the male came in and shut down the photo shoot.

He looks like he means business:

Yeah, I have heard/read people refer to them as little Midas. They are fun

Thanks Aquanero

The eggs are no longer in the cave, I am guessing they were moved to a pit that the pair has dug behind the cave, but they mave have been eaten, I wont really be sure until they are free-swimming. But they look like they are guarding this spot, so I have a good feeling.

The spot they chose is hard to get a good look at.

Here is a picture showing where the pit is in regards to the initial spot they chose to spawn. I figured they would keep the wrigglers in the cave, they had dug a pit in the right side of it.

The top picture was taking looking down the length of the aquarium:

Green arrows indicate where the eggs were, Red indicate where I suspect the wrigglers are.

The wrigglers were moved to the front of the tank today. There are a bunch, I am probably going to end up with alot of fry with there being no tankmates to eat them.

I will probably combine the pics into a convict breeding guide. Not that it is difficult, just to give people who havent bred them an idea of what it is like, what to expect, enjoy

Getting a good focus zoomed in pic is a pain with my point and shoot cam. I will take more later and maybe get some good close ups
