Current report: It seems like the male dovii and the female dovii has paired, they do try to fight each other but the male never really attempt an attack but just flaring and flashing off its side body(been a week together and no serious injury or fighting at all).
The female has laid eggs about 2 days ago, temp is about 80-82F. My cousin says that after the female laid the eggs, the male looks like it wants to come and fertilize it but the female is trying to fight off the male. My cousin don't know if it is fertilize or not since he isn't watching the entire time, all he know is that the female try to chase the male away but never know if the male ever got the chance to fertilized it.
2 days now, and the eggs are dark drown or dark tan coloration. As far as what I know, white eggs = dead eggs. How long does it usually takes for Dovii eggs to hatch?
Do I need a pic if it helps? :nilly:

If the eggs are white they did not get fertilized. Sound like from your description there good. Like the guy above said your know for sure in a few days. My Jaguar pair act similar to what you described. The female will let the male come around but she keeps a very close eye on him. If he get to close to the actual eggs she starts to defend them. He is more there to protect he nest and territory while she keeps very close to the eggs. When they hatch they both protect the fry.

Just wanted to add that if they were really fighting you would more than likely have a dead Dovii. Sounds like normal spawning behavior. The flaring and showing his side is just to impress her and to show he is ready.

First time trying to spawn?

First time trying to spawn?
First time for the male, the female laid eggs once without a male(I use to have the female, but I gave it to him since he has the time and space for the care). Surprisingly he told me they just breed like convicts, after a week of trying to pair the fish then they breed already.
Current report: My cousin said that more eggs are turning white(maybe 25 more out of 200-300?), the rest seems like it starts to form a black spot or dark gray spot on it. Is that the eye of the frys or means that the egg is fertalized? It's been 4 days now...I think it's 4 days. Temp is approximately 82-84F right now.

You may have some fry soon, the fry will break out and the female will move the wigglers away from the original spawning spot. Keep an eye on the female she will show you where she puts the wigglers.

I have about 250 five week old dovi fry right now. Took my pair about 8 times to get the spawning right.

Current report: He called me and said that yesterday night the female dovii is picking up the eggs. He couldn't tell if the female is eating it or moving the eggs. Today there are less eggs than yesterday, could she have hid them somewhere? Because there is still some eggs left in the same spot. About 50% of it is gone...what can really happened to the eggs?

most likely she ate them, they wont move the babies until they hatch, if this is their first time spawning then dont worry about it usually fish have to go through a few botched spawns before they get it right
