Ive never realy used that rule, has a lot of flaws in it, it works in general community tanks but not for monsters...

The inch per gallon rule only works with nano-fish. For example, I have 6 Dario dario in a 6 gallon tank. They don't even get an inch long. Even then, I'm still selling one of the males off to a friend of mine who's been looking for them for years.
