for the clean tank and healthy fish. I was unaware that the exoskeleton was undigestable, I do find parts sometimes in my silvers tank but I think they are regergitated

...Yeah the exoskeleton will pass right through the system undigested. The "shells" are then left to float around the bottom and get sucked into the filters.

I scoop them out with a net to keep hem from floating around and into a filter.
