I have three species of Cryptoheros: paramensis, neuluteus and sajica. These are medium size CAs, comparable in size and brilliant color as Rift Lake cichlid. IMO their behavior is more interesting than mouthbrooders because they form strong bond, and don't rape their spouse.

Here are my mixed species of neuluteus, sajica and paramensis.

Here are my aging paramensis pair that has bonded for 5 year in a 75 gal.

A pair of neuluteus fiercely guarding fry against much bigger tankmates.

Here are closed up views of my male paramensis. Note the snake skin pattern of the dorsal that appears to be written in ideogram.

I really like all these fish. Sajica's I've liked for a long time, but I've never really looked at Panamensis very closely.

I absolutely love Panamesis. Always wanted to keep some.

Thanks for sharing!

Amazing! I love cryptoheros, might just be my favorite genus. Such great looks and attitude on small fish. I have/ have kept all of these species recently, and the panamensis really are a gem. Your male is stunning

Love that male Paramensis
The neuluteus and sajica are equally attractive, but different. The sajica in my 125 show are all females, and one paired up with a neuluteus. I am waiting for two other sajica grow out in my other tanks, and hopefully they are male. If females are attractive, I anticipate males would be even more stunning.

They are bold fish, always swimming in front of the glass begging for food, or defending their territories against one another. I am sizing down, not in he number of tanks, but the size of my fish, concentrating on keeping only convict size fish. I just sold my 11" and 14" Vieja in the 3rd video.

Do you know when sajica are mature enough to pair up and breed?
