State of chaos
The day my Senegal died. Time of death, EST 1:45 PM. She was a ]v[0NSTER. She was just a hair shorter than 9". She died suddenly, she was swimming around, swimming to take in air, doing Bichir stuff, only 10 minutes ago. No sooner had I sat down on my bed did my visiting baby cousin (future MFK'er, fascinated by all things living) knock on the door. She loved my Senegal as much as I did. I answered the door and turned around to point out my Senegal. I stopped dead in my tracks. The Sen was laying on her back, on the bottom.

I prodded her a few times, and she floundered around the tank, then stopped and sank. She floundered a bit more in the ensueing minutes, then settled down. My family all considered her as much a pet as the Dog or the Cat, so they are just as busted up as I am. My sister cried. I don't think I am going to get another Bichir any time soon. I think I am going to bury her later tonight, just in case my Dad wants to take a final look when he gets home.

RIP Senny, my first true ]v[0NSTER, and the best fishy friend I could ask for. :rip:cry:

Sorry for your loss:( I had one of my Sens died suddenly awhile ago. So I know how you feel. It was my first Poly and I didn't realize how active those little guys were so it was a pleasant surprise. One day, I looked at the tank to see everything being normal, left to get a bite to eat, came home to find it belly up on the bottom of the tank:cry: Don't give up on Bichirs. They're definitely wonderful fish and it's also nice to know that you can have more than one, unlike some other predators where territory is always an issue. Hope you decide to get another one...don't think of it as a replacement, but a new buddy to experience and enjoy.

Thank you for the condolences. I'm not giving up on Bichirs, they are great fish, and definately one of my favorites. I will just wait until I can get a bigger tank. This is a 30g, and while I was told that a single Sen with good water can live in a 30, I wanna explore some more options. After all, it's a big world wwith lots of fish, right? But my Sen will be dearly missed in my house.

that sucks...maybe it hit something on the top during the breath?

Nah, I would've heard it and seen it. I don't think she died right after taking a breath, it was more like 5-10 minutes after.

Thanks for your condolences. Yes, she was my favorite of my fish :(
It always sucks when a fish dies before its life expectancy is up :(

So sorry for the loss. :(

Thanks for the condolences :(
I was just thinking about when there would be a lot of people in the room, she used to swim up to the surface and sit on top of the filter to watch everybody :(
