When I am able to take a picture of me and my goonch like this only then will I be satisfied.
It may take your finger tip... not sure if you have seen my Rutilus feeding video but you can hear the jaws coming down on the rosy through the glass.
I have a two footer and I'm pretty sure your fingers are safe. But, I'm not going to try it.
They have a very quick strike. They seem to be an ambush type predator waiting in the strong water current to strike unsuspecting fish flowing down stream. They have very large substantial whiskers on either side of the mouth that don't fold back in the strong water current giving the Goonch a large "field of view". The quick strike seems to be an adaption to the strong water flow they are accustomed too. I like to drop feeders right into the current. The Goonch at the other end just snatches up the fish as they flow by. Grabbing left or right as quickly as possible, nothing seems to get buy.
The body of the Goonch looks exactly like a shark. It's perfectly adapted to fast water flow.
Also "You fingers are probably safe." "They are built like a shark".....well huh...if something is built like a shark it doesn't sound like a strong case for safe fingers lmao

Like we talked about in our texts, goonch and most sharks have very different teeth. Most sharks have cutting teeth in at least their top jaw. Goonch have rear facing conical teeth in both jaws that are designed to grab and hold. While I don't doubt a goonch bite would hurt like hell, I don't think it could do any real damage.
Heres a video of Jakub catching that enormous Goonch. Sorry its not in English lol
