My Devil Cats

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
So guys this is my new basement in the new house! Has a lot of potential. Unfortunately there is a lot of paint cans and things left from the previous owner. I am thinking of putting a 180 and 90on the wall with the paint cans temporarily. I need to build it out with some wood so the width will be okay :) I am going to build it out (currently only 23 and a half inches wide) with enough for the 180 and enough space to house a sump and equipment as well. I am going to have the basement finished and run pipes to that area so it will be all set up. I want to make that whole space into a massive custom tank, but we will see where my budget lands after the contractor gives me an over all estimate to finish the basement. This will be where my goonch tanks will be set up. As you can see I have two 55 grow outs set up already (one is going to be a temporary salt until my 92 corner reef is set up and finished being plummed upstairs.) After its empty I will use it as a second grow out for my fesh water stock :)

I like it, Matt!

If I were you, I'd make that alcove one huge ass built in tank.

Ok, I got a Goonch from Jeff recently and he is a great looking, healthy fish, but someone told me that it wasn't a true Goonch, but rather one of the smaller sub-species. Any thoughts?

It is a true goonch. It is Bagarius rutilus.

I thought that the true goonch's are the bangarius Yareli?

You thought wrong my friend. Any member of the genus Bagarius is correctly referred to as a goonch. To further differentiate between types as the current thirty year old scientific revision appears to be wrong, we refer to the type you were likely thinking of as a Highland Giant.

It'll help you understand what's going on a bit better. Matt (the OP of this thread) and I have an ID thread that we're working on. It has taken a LOT of homework to get this situation under control.

Thank you!!!!! I know that info on these guys is limited and that they seem like the new fad among catfish, but I just wanted to know what I really had, so that in the future I can create an environment suitable for cats of that size. One other question though, do they have a water preference? When I got him from jeff, he told me that they would be suited just fine in my South American set-up, any thoughts? Thanks
