Do you use aged tap water for them? I have heard of water chemistry changing and additional chemicals being added municipally and killing fish. Especially if the tap water isn't aged or properly dechlorinated/dechloramined. I am not questioning your level of care and expertise with them. I just have had my tap water quality change with the seasons before. I am just hoping it isn't the Stress Coat because that is a major issue for everyone then. I am scared because I use it occasionally. I am really sorry for your loss. I think the Goonchs are amazing fish.

sad, real sorry...

These were my two boys. Completely healthy. Both completely pellet trained. Friendly. Active. Flawless fins. Great colors. I have back up generators for all the goonch tanks. Airators with automatic battery back ups. I had multiple heaters so if one goes then the other will keep the temp where it needs to be. Hell I'm running an FX5 on a 90 gallon tank with full ceramics. I thought of every freaking worst case scenario, but the fact that stress coat would kill my fish with a bad batch.

Not the tap water :( I have well water here. Never had a problem I have used stress coat before. All fish were fine and active. I ran out of my old bottle of stress coat. Bought a new bottle of stress coat yesterday threw in a minor dose and within 4 hours I had 95% dead loss in the tank. Including the rosy red feeders. Hell it even killed the Crayfish I had and you need to TRY and kill a crayfish. Even my oscars were floating on the top. They didnt even struggle when i grabbed them with my hands thats how F'ed up they were. People on here often joke around the only way to kill an oscar is to throw it in with an RTC. This is a major problem and Necronis said he has heard of this happening before and that a bad batch can wipe a tank. I am just glad I have my dogs in the basement and had to bring them out for there walk otherwise it would have taken even my hardiest fish too.

I have well water too. Have you emailed API about this? I think they manufacture the Stress Coat...

That's what I was thinking as well but when the hardiest of the hardy fish either die or are barely hanging in there as well, it's gotta be something else. Something more serious and that stress coat is the only real change that there was

I'm sorry for the loss! How cold was the water when you did the water change? I highly doubt if the stress coat did that kind of damage, and if it did, it's more likely of wrong dosage than a "bad batch."

I put a low dosage of stress coat in it. This isnt the only report of a bad batch out there. I have talked to a few MODS about this already. Water temp was fine and matched it. The stress coat was added post water change. the fish were and have been doing perfectly fine. I am super careful with these fish. The Stress Coat was the only change in the water.

Haha I've heard! I've learned you're the man to come too about Goonch. Hopefully I'll be getting one in about a week so I may have some questions but after this I definitely won't be using stresscoat
