Discus that young will not eat small quick fish like Galaxies. Both will still eat newly hached brineshrimp which is, BTW, not a bad idea at this stage as it tends to equal a resumption of the care the discus breeder was giving them before they were turned over to the resale market. Even four inch discus will eat live bbs if given a chance to do so.
You actually have about all the plants you need except do change out the house plant, aluminum plant for a med. sized Echinodorus bleheri, The Broadleaf Amazon Sword. It will become the center piece. Easily grows to 18 -20 inches tall.
It looks like you have a couple of the hybrid swords that tend to grow to about 10 inches tall.
The rest of your stem plants will grow a lot and will require pruning from time to time or fresh heading.
It looks like you have Giant Val in the corners. Once it settles in it will send out plenty of runners so you should leave them room to fill in the areas around them.
It is a better strategy to plant the way you did and then allow for all the growth rather than plant so much at once that all growth is up and in the crowded conditions the stem plants drop their lower leaves leaving ugly bare stems.
If you can afford them get 4 more discus. It really is best to keep a minimum of six and to get them at the same time. It is always more difficult to add them later and six growing up together will usually give you six all the same size.
thanks royal discus, its set then im going to have 2 more blue diamonds tomorrow when i take a trip to the wholesaler tomorrow most likley going to buy some more plants too, any suggestions?
I tend to use a dark background on my Discus tanks, too but a friend of mine who keeps and breeds a few discus glues a mirror to the back of every one of his planted tanks. It actually is an interesting approach and adds an illusion of depth that is amazing. The other thing the mirror does is to maximize to amount of available light. It causes more light to reach the bottom which goes a long ways towards promoting good leaf growth at the lower portions of stem plants for a given wattage than one would normally expect.
It also "doubles" the number of discus in his tanks.
