Since some people might want to live the experience through someone else's shoes, (not invest before knowing the facts) I thought it would be best to show my discoveries of being a discus owner. This will be a journal of daily discus activity. It all started on day 1.

Day 1: Today, I purchased my discus from an aquarium only store in Springfield, MO - Cichlids & Salt. Very nice place, and the owner was a handfull of knowledge. I brought home 5 discus, -1 Scribble (snakeskin), 1 King Cobra (snakeskin with a tighter design pattern, 1 Bold Red Universe, 1 Red Pigeon (Red Morolboro), and 1 Blue Neon.
So far, the experience has been great. I got them home, acclimated them in the 85 gallon tank for 1 hour, and they have been swimming around curiously. I even gave it a go for feeding them a tiny bit to make sure they would willingly accept food, and sure enough, they chowed down!
The total price for these fish was $205. I got a discount of about $5 per fish for buying in bulk.

Stay tuned for more posts. Looks like I just made it before tomorrow.

Discus are great fish. I had 2 wild greens and they were the best fish i ever had until a plec went rogue and killed them. Your going to love them.

nice background on that tank lol and great looking fish. id turn my 220 into a discus, angel, and knife community if i could afford those fish lol. discus are pretty high dollar, but im sure its totally worth it :D

Day 2: Snapshots of each discus, in order: Bold Red Universe, Snakeskin, Scribble, Blue Neon, Marlboro

Update post coming tonight.

Thanks for all of the feedback.

Day 2: The Discus have REALLY loosened up! They are not near as shy as i had expected. My temperature is now regulated at about 82.3°F, and they seem very happy. A new addition of a Bamboo Shrimp has me very excited as well. A few minor curious aggression towards him from the Discus, but after an hour everything was fine. If you feed your discus bloodworms, I suggest draining the blood out through a strainer, it was a very good discovery, since it does not cloud up your water one bit now.

They have very hardy appetites, and have settled down very well. :headbang2
