My Discus Journal

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
Today was pretty good! The Bold Red Universe (white, and red) wouldn't eat my fish flakes, so I called the fish store I got them from. They said he might have gotten attached to blood worms, and told me to get an alternate frozen food, so I bought some Mysis Shrimp. He ate the hell out of them! Everything is looking very healthy with the Discus so far. They are definately not as hard as I had thought, you just have to keep up with them, and have time devoted to taking care of them.

Thanks for tuning in guys, and private message me with any questions you might have.

Where do you live? I usually don't give my discus flakes till their about 4' or so. Till then I feed them beefheart and change 80-90% of the water every 2 days..........

I live in Missouri. They are very willingly accepting the flake food, and i think that is a little too drastic, I do 10 gallons every other day.

The reason for the major w/cs is because bh will foul up the water pretty quick. Also bf speeds up growth. If you are looking into more discus try simplydiscus.com for local breeders with some awesome deals on fish...........

First off, thanks for sharing the journey.

I hate discus, over the years I've spent hundreds on trying to keep these beautiful fish over an 18 month period. Everything always went well for the first week or so then everything would go down hill without reason.

I hope your journey turns out to be more successful than mine.

Sorry, late post. Today, I got a bristlenosed Pleco because I was developing an algae problem.
The 10 gallon water changes every other day is doing great, my water is crystal clear!
The discus are really happy, and like I was told, one would show aggression to the others, but it is spread out so I'm not that worried about it.

Pictures will come tomorrow!

Thanks for reading!
