Any help with the loudness problem will be appreciated since it is in my bedroom lol.

Whats making it loud, Id think itd be very quiet unless your pump is noisy

so... this thing has been running in the same place for a year now.
Ive taken the scrubbies out twice so far and rinsed them off and put em back in.
The readings on the big tank its on still read 0-0-0 and the water is always nice and clean.
I guess as a bio filter it works!

I think the loudness might be the pump in the tank you have sitting on the glass bottom.

Maybe set it on a sponge to dampen out the vibes.

i make my own "in-tank" bio-filters usually using the large empty fish food containers and a power head, just drill a hole on the top to fit the strainer attachment on the power head, drill a bunch of smaller holes on bottom and sides, and as filter media i use sponge on bottom, followed by lava rocks, sometimes i use straws but not lately and top it of with filter floss...works great, in my larger aquariums i use them as a support filter but anything 40 gal. and under i add some activated carbon and its all i need.

That is cool. I have been trying to figure out a way to keep a heater of out my 35 gallon planted tank that's in the works... might be onto something trying this

Two bulkheads, a piece of 2" pipe, one elbow and one "T"...a circulation pump...just a small one and bam, inline heater.
1). Elbow at the bottom bulkhead.
2). Length of pipe to the "T" on one open end up...so heater fits into the pipe. Remaining open end to top bulkhead.
3). Plumb an small submersible circ pump to pump from the sump, through the bulkhead, through the pipe past the heater, through the "T" and back into the sump...run a pipe back down in and near the return pump intake to reduce noise and circulate heated water...
