I think its better to let it sit for 48 hrs in damp sand.
I m too making LR(well which is Dead right now lol)
What I have read is that you let it sit in FW for 4 weeks(atleast) then 1 week in SW then a water change with SW and leave it unstirred for 3 days then check the pH if its between 7.8-8.2 that's good otherwise get some flow and let it sit for another 4 days.then again check.
After FW if u directly put it in ur tank and if the amount is high as compared to your tank.Then there ll a spike in pH.It is also being tested that curing in Hard alkaline water some what speeds the process but atleast a month is needed for curing.To be on the safe side.

If you want to take it a step further and have the time. Before you add it to the tank add a bit of LR from your tank to the bin, and have a lot of flow and seed it with Purple up for about a month and you would never know it is home made.

what type of rock salt to use ? this is snow melt right ? toxic isn"t it ?

You can buy rock salt in the grocery store by the other salt. It is just not ground up so it has larger chunks. Your store may also sell it as ice cream salt.
