my diy reactor...

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
black label...go find another thread to hi jack dude...im sure half of these guys here know more then u will ever...including wyldfya...u can do something ghetto and replace ur tubing every six months...or u can do it right and not worry about it...dont see why u would opt for the worst...but hey thats u...

yeah i think some rigid tubing will really help keep the co2 line where it should be. and youre right, only time will tell. if you dont have one yet, invest in a drop checker and as long as your co2 levels are good and youre plants look healthy, who cares what the damn reactor looks like!

i have a bubble counter...im doing around 2 bubbles a second...i actually have been trying to get opinions on how much co2 to inject...i have like 6-8 oto cats...and a silver aro juvi around 7 inches in there now...its his growout tank so he can go in the 200...its a lil hard since hes a top water fish but ive never seen him gasp at the surface or not be active...first hints of anything and ill cut back on the co2...its a 55 u think i can give it a lil more??...so far my ph really hasnt dropped much...it went from like 7.8 to 7.4-7.6...i leave the co2 on at night doing a bubble every couple seconds becuase aro's are sensitive to ph changes...they really dont care about ph too much they could care less but the changing ph isnt too good for them...so this way my ph doesnt change much from time to day..also run a airstone at night...

thanks for the link cardona...ill be picking some tubing up this week...and wyldfya thank u for ur input also...i KNOW u know ur stuff and apreciate all the input u have given me since i started my tank...its come along way i gotta post some pics...i see what u are saying about the tubing bouncing around in the current...i can correct that by making it out of hard tube....but so far i see no problems with it...like i said time will tell...and if i have any problems ill change the fitting and design...i dont think the reactor is poorly designed like some have stated...like cardona said he didnt know the tubing went all the way up and now that he does he see's no problem in the reactor...same as me...only thing is what u brought up about the tubing which i really didnt think of...another thing i was thinking of today is adding a very fine airstone inside the reactor to give it a headstart...even though i dont think i need it...it would be more diffusion...the bubble wouldnt start as one big bubble getting diffused but many smaller ones...what do u think wyldfya???
Personally I put a ceramic stone in the middle for extra small bubbles inside the reactor.

Aro's don't have too tough a time with the shifting pH, I had a black in mine for a little while, and that tank shifts between 7.2 and 6.4 everyday. My discus also have to endure this everyday, with no problems.

hmm...was it a baby??..or mature??...i guess im just being a lil on the safe side...how much co2 u think i should inject wyldfya??...

changes in ph are not good for any fish. however ph fluctuations caused by co2 are not the same as changes caused by tds. I am not convinced that changes resulting from co2 stress the fish at all.

He was out of the black and white phase, and was in the area where he would be considered at blue. How much to inject though, will be based on your specific tank. What do you have for plants?
