My DIY sump filter works!

  • We are currently upgrading MFK. thanks! -neo
The gasket is like a gromet, right? Its fits through the hole and has a lip on both sides? I was going to make a rubber gasket out of rubber mat and then put a bunch of silicone around it. Think that would work?

Is your bioball hamper submerged, or is there just a little bit of water in that sump?

Not like a grommet it just is between the outer bulkhead nut and the glass.Im sure you could make a gasket out of silicone, never did it on a tank but made plenty of gaskets out of silicone when I used to hotrod engines.:D
The bioball basket is out of the water but the scrubbies are in the water.

Very nice!! Good Job!

Ran into a problem and thought I would share.Everything was fine first 3 waterchanges, next waterchange tanks overflowed when I turned the pump back on.:swear:
turned the pump on and off a few times and the water started flowing normally again.Next waterchange same thing happened again, turns out the lines from the bulkhead to the spraybars in the mech filter had settled a bit and just above the filter drawer the lines had laid down. For some reason this allows air to be trapped in the hose blocking the flow.I screwed a small wood piece to the bottom of the tank rack to keep the hoses perpendicular to the top of the sump and this seems to have solved the problem.

Another update
System was tested last night had a 3 hour blackout power came back on before I went into the fishroom. It restarted itself with no spillage:clap :headbang2

Oh, Yeah! Cold restart from a power failure and no flooding!:woot: Sounds like you just passed the nightmare test...

Have you tested the system in case of a power shortage? Looks the goods but from the pics (i cant really tell) it looks as though the bottom big container is full

Hasi,
In the pics it hadnt been started yet so the sump is empty
