I really like it, the main reason for barn wood is because at the time I made those stands we were pretty poor and couldnt afford stands. I was recently laid off and I had to take a "job" just to get by, plus my wife was still in college and making no money. The wood was free. It took a hell of alot of work to get some of that old paint off, alot of sanding and some of the pieces had caked in poop, yes you heard it poop. Good ole prehistoric rock hard animal turd cakes. I took alot of sanding and cutting. In the end I loved the result so much that I would have it no other way I think they look great, with the weathering and all. All I bought was was the hinges, a few 2x4's and knobs and some polyurathane. To make both it cost maybe $20.
I also made a 30 gallon stand/desk with pull out drawers to its at my father in laws house. It is much nicer than these.
I would like to make a new stand with the same wood but make it more ornamental. (there is still some left) I am thinking a 8'x2' stand for a 240 gallon I want to make from acrylic. I already have the acrylic, but I am getting mega resitance from putting another tank in the house. Ahhhh I remember the glory days of bachelorhood when I had 12 tanks in my apartment, now I am regulated to 2.
